This Saturday Whitegrass Ski Touring Center will host its 35th annual Jack Frost Celebration and welcome friends with a pot luck dinner. As the sun drops low on the horizon, the lavender skyline invokes the frosty spirit of winter. Friends bring a covered dish for the community feast, and donate non-perishable items to the Tucker County Food Bank.
As daylight fades, folks mingle around the light of the fire. Live music typically rocks from the yurt, the tool shed, and the barn. The night was fills with music, fireworks, and great company. People come from all over – West Virginia, D.C., Pittsburgh, Virginia – even Iceland. Whitegrass’ remarkable charm has a generous sense of community and highland culture.
You can return to Whitegrass early the next morning for brunch. After brunch, you can hike or ski to the top of Bald Knob for spectacular views over Canaan Valley. The short hike and views at the summit were rejuvenating.
Whitegrass is a cross country touring center that provides sales and rentals of xc ski and snowshoe equipment. They also have a cozy café and retail shop.
